Don’t Protest the President’s School Speech If . . .

Postby GaryDeMar » Fri Sep 04, 2009 10:04 pm

Many parents are upset that President Obama is going to “indoctrinate” their children with his speech on September 8. I’m as shocked as you are about Socialism being promoted by the President in public schools. It needs to be stopped, and now! Yeah, right. Can you believe these people? They’re worried about a few minutes of Socialistic propaganda by the President when public education is one of the identifying marks of Socialism and Communism. These parents are concerned about 30 minutes of indoctrination when they should be worried about six hours each day, five days each week, ten months each year for 12 years of socialistic, propagandistic indoctrination.

Americans are concerned about the government taking over healthcare when the government has already taken over education. Doesn’t “public option” and "government option" sound a whole lot like “public education” and "government education"? Government education is the public option. The low cost, sold as “free public education,” one of the planks of the Communist Manifesto, competes unfairly with private school education where tuition must be paid. Parents who send their children to a private school or homeschool are forced to pay for the education of their neighbors’ children. You can’t protest government healthcare if you do not protest public education.

This is a splendid time to review all of of our presuppositions about government and what our founding fathers stood for. Don't just take somebody else's word for it and don't just look at your own self interest. Why did our founding fathers say and do what they did? The Bible was the single largest contributor to their pool of ideas. The answers are there. We have been warned about tyranny and we have been offered a lifetime of blessings for doing the right thing. It isn't that our Constitution didn't work, we have gotten away from it. Let 2010 be the Year of the Constitution and get back to what made America Great! De Tocqueville said that what made America great was that her people were good. Let's return to the goodness that once characterized our nation. Education was once a treasured privilege. Books were a treasure. Teachers were honorable and honored. Our courts were recognized for their wisdom. Jefferson warned us that the price of freedom was vigilance. We have let the barbarians through the gates and America is in flames. Gary is right when he says we are distracted from the larger issues. We are worried if Nero's violin is in tune while Rome burns!

There are those of us who do protest the government operated schools, but please remember that we are forced by law to use these facilities.
The penalty for home-schooling is reflected in the business world's refusal to accept a home-schooled child citing the lack of a high school diploma.
Colleges also require either a diploma or GED for admission, as does the military.
In other words, we have no choice.
Protestors are shunned in the community, targeted by local "officials" as undesirables, and generally placed in the category once enjoyed by the protestors of the VietNam conflict.

Yes, I do protest Obama's socialist agenda. I have since he and the other socialist (Hilliary Clinton) began the race for the seat of president (note that Hilliary is now one of Obama's top team members!).

College and universities accept homeschool students, even Harvard. Marlyn McGrath Lewis, Director of Admissions for Harvard College says "We receive a good number of candidates every year with all or part of their education from a homeschool background. Homeschooling is broader than some people realize. We are looking for the strongest candidates in the world and we find some of those among homeschoolers." I spoke with a homeschooled student last week who did all his college work correspondence and is now in law school. If there are prohibitions, I would like to know about them.

There is no law in this land that forces anyone to use the government schools.

I don't know of any cases of discrimination in the business world where an honest and industrious person was turned down because of "lack of high school diploma."

I know of hundreds of homeschooled children who are now in colleges and in military academies.

In other words, you have much choice but chose to not exercise your liberty.

Klroy, your facts are not correct. I would suggest that you pull your children from those government schools and quit using invalid excuses.

So far, only one of my 5 has been required to get a GED. For grad school, and only because she had only 3 years of college.

The others do not have HS diplomas. It has never been a hindrance.

I had a co-worker recently decry the evils of public education. With my co-worker knowing I was an adamant homeschooler I didn't hold back:

"I can't believe you just said that... to me. You know what I think about public education. You just said that the public education system is destroying our children. You've said it before... and yet you still have 2 kids in it. You know you can still homeschool them. Its not too late. You are a complete idiot to be sending your children someplace that you think is destroying them."

Their response:

"Yeah - I know."

People know the public education system sucks - they just aren't willing to put aside their own selfish pursuits with free daycare.

As someone who made some decisions early in life that then required that I work AND send my children to public school, I learned much later on that I had been foolish, myopic, and selfish. As time went on, I was at least able to stay at home with my youngest children until they went to school, hopefully providing them with a good foundation of nurturing and regular worship to help them combat the opposing forces in the public schools.

I have seen each of my five children grow up with distinct worldviews. Because I had been shortsighted in the past, I am now trying, by God's grace, to show them the importance of having a Biblical worldview. Of course, it would have been SO much better for them to have been prepared for this from an earlier age, but I'm doing what I can to demonstrate righteous behavior and show its benefits to them all. Each of my children seem to be absorbing and responding to God's mercy and grace in their own unique ways.

If I had it to do over, I would most definitely either homeschool or send my children to private school. But then, hindsight has ALWAYS been 20-20. :)

I have been shocked over the outrage Obama's speah has gotten. Most of the people in my office are in an uproar. There has been talk of propaganda and brainwashing. They cannot believe "that we have come to this". Members of my church are even worse. They are horrified that Obama would do this. They are furious. I have never seen many of them this upset over something political before. I just want to scream,

"BUT YOUR KIDS ARE IN PUBLIC SCHOOL!?!?!?!"

What do they think their kids are taught everyday? If your kid is in public schools what does this little speach hurt. It is so frustrating
