American Vision, a non-profit educational organization based in Atlanta, GA, will host a public debate on the topic of Creation vs. Evolution in Dothan, AL. The debate will be held at the Dothan Opera House from 7:00 PM – 9:00 PM on Tuesday, November 27th between Rick Pierson and Dr. Robert Carter. Questions from the public will be answered in a special 30-minute session following the debate (8:30 PM – 9:00 PM).

Mr. Rick Pierson will take the affirmative position and defend the Theory of Evolution as the only explanation for human origins. Mr. Pierson has been a computer programmer/database manager at the corporate office of a national retailer since 1997. He earned his BS in Computer Information Systems at Troy State University Dothan, graduating with highest honors (summa cum laude) in 1999.  Rick's fascination with biology, the minor for his first degree, grew so he returned to Troy University Dothan to earn a second BS, this one in Biology, in 2006.  Mr. Pierson again graduated summa cum laude, as well as receiving the Outstanding Undergraduate Student Award in Biology.  As a part-time employee of his alma mater's Student Support Services, he has tutored students in biology, chemistry, physical science, and math courses.

Dr. Robert Carter will challenge the Theory of Evolution and defend Biblical Creationism as the only scientifically sound theory for human origins. Dr. Carter obtained a BS in Applied Biology from the Georgia Institute of Technology in 1992. He then spent four years teaching high school biology, chemistry, physics and electronics before going to the University of Miami to obtain his PhD in Marine Biology. He successfully completed this program in 2003 with a dissertation on “Cnidarian Fluorescent Proteins.” While in Miami, he studied the genetics of pigmentation in corals and other invertebrates, designed and built an aquaculture See long biofacility for Caribbean corals, performed well over 500 SCUBA dives, many of them at night, and licensed a spin-off product of his research (a patent-pendingfluorescent protein) to a biotech company.  He is currently Head Speaker/Scientist for CMI-USA in Atlanta, Georgia, where he lives with his wife, Leanne, and children and is currently researching human genetics and other issues related to biblical creation.

The debate will be filmed. Admission is free of charge.
